Evolution Risk Assurance (ERA), a global emergency response consultancy company, is making its mark on the UK by extending an ongoing partnership with international bulk liquid storage and transportation company Exolum.
Exolum, which transports and stores a wide range of bulk liquids in eight countries, has recently taken over a site at Seal Sands and across the UK is working with ERA to deliver bespoke training courses to its employees.
ERA, with offices in Hartlepool and London, has tailored highly interactive courses to allow Exolum to test response procedures and staff competence through its Evolution XR immersive platform.
As a part of Exolum’s commitment to innovation; they are also utilising Evolution Response App to provide a Virtual Emergency Control Centre that key responders can join, gain situational awareness and assist in the management of incidents from any geographic location. This will help with Exolum’s continual improvement to the safety of its employees.
Alan Edwards, NWE HSSE Lead at Exolum, said: “Evolution Risk Assurance is flexible and innovative in approach and they have developed and grown as a business, as have we, in the last few years.
“The technology allows the facilitator to show a realistic view of a terminal, simulating any type of incident and the corresponding security measures to remedy it.
“The technology is amazing and immersive and can also be carried out using VR headsets in a built environment based on our own terminals.”
Exolum operates storage terminal sites and a pipeline network transporting bulk liquids around the UK. It has grown in size; with 27 storage terminals across northwest Europe.
ERA has provided excellent courses for Site Incident Controllers and Site Main Controllers based on Exolum’s emergency procedures. They have also produced a specialist Pipeline Emergency Response Officer course to the required syllabus.
He added: “The next stage is developing an Exolum specific App that allows emergencies to be managed in real-time with the right people having access to the information and assisted by checklists and our own procedures embedded within the app.
“We hope to be implementing this in the coming months and are actively working on the development of this now.”
ERA has seen significant growth despite the pandemic and provides a service to some of the world’s biggest energy companies.
Alan Harrison, the company’s Operations Director for Europe, has been keen to develop ERA’s UK presence after success on the continent.
Mr Harrison said: “We are already a UK and global provider of our services and with the extension of our partnership with Exolum across the UK it is fantastic to be able to work with such a reputable company in the local area.
“Exolum has very similar values to ourselves with their desire to embrace innovative technologies and continually develop their workforce, our immersive sessions have been very well received across their organisation and this is a credit to the Exolum team members. We look forward to continuing to innovate with the assistance of Exolum moving into the use of augmented reality in a meaningful and cost-effective manner.”
